Online Jigsaw Puzzles, No Download and No Installation

Every jigsaw puzzle on PuzzlePace runs inside the web page itself. There is no app to download, no plugin, and no installer. You open a puzzle, the pieces appear, and you start dragging. This page covers how that works and when it is a good fit.

Nothing to install

The puzzle board is drawn directly in the browser. Opening a puzzle is the whole setup. The page loads, the image is fetched once, the pieces are laid out, and the timer starts. You can try it now: the demo on the home page is a 25-piece board that takes most people about three minutes.

Works on a phone and on a computer

A puzzle plays the same with a mouse or with touch. On a phone you drag pieces with a finger, and on a laptop you drag with the trackpad or mouse. The board scales to the size of the screen, so a puzzle that you start on a computer still works if you pick it up later on a phone. The controls are the same either way. Pick up a piece, move it, and drop it near where it belongs.

Why the browser is enough

Modern browsers already include everything a jigsaw puzzle needs. The board is rendered on an HTML canvas, the same drawing surface used for browser games and charts. Pointer and touch events handle picking up and dropping pieces. The puzzle image is downloaded a single time and then reused for every piece. None of that requires software installed on your device. The browser provides the graphics surface and the input handling, and the puzzle is a set of instructions that runs on top of them. That is also why a plain link is enough to send a puzzle to someone else.

Good for a short break

A 25-piece puzzle is a few minutes. A 100-piece puzzle is a longer sit-down. Because there is nothing to install and nothing to load beyond one image, a puzzle fits into the gaps in a day, whether that is a commute, a lunch break, or a waiting room, without committing to anything. Close the tab and come back to a fresh one later.

What you need to play

A reasonably current browser is the only requirement. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all work, on Windows, macOS, Android, and iPhone or iPad. There is no minimum graphics card and no separate mobile app to keep updated. The page you load is the whole thing. After the first load the puzzle image is cached by the browser, so coming back to that puzzle starts quickly.

When you would want an account

The demo gives you the feel of it. An account adds the rest: your finish times are saved, you appear on each puzzle’s leaderboard, you can play the daily challenge, and you can create your own puzzles or set up a private race with friends. The online jigsaw competition page explains how the ranking works.
